The term, "cafe dumond", is actually "Café Du Monde.” When translated from French to English the name means "the world cafe." Others who've visited the city before mention that you must try the beignets at Cafe Du Monde. You'll understand how good they are especially when compared to the beignets you may have first tried at the airport.
If you happen to be riding one of the streetcars, a local resident may tell you what to expect. First, there are pigeons that like to park on the ceiling fans outside and while these birds add to the atmosphere, they can also be a slight nuisance. It's one of those things that gives the place character.
Second, in the morning, don't be surprised to find long carryout lines. Don't get discouraged though. Make your way inside and you may just be lucky enough to get a table by the window. There will always be someone leaving a table if you wait for a minute. On a sunny day there are plenty of tables outside and on rainy days these tables are covered and you are protected from the rain.
