The history of bourbon street starts with how it became part of the development of a city for early explorers heading west to a thriving street with businesses and homes, to what it is today, a major tourist attraction because of its jazz, nightlife, shops and restaurants.
At night, the street is closed off so visitors can walk and not have to worry about traffic. If you want a break from the crowds, loudness and energy of Bourbon Street, walk down Royal Street or any of the other streets next to Bourbon. You may be treated to street musicians in these quieter streets. During the day, the street shows another side of itself where you can shop or stop for lunch at any of the restaurants.
