As a tourist going to New Orleans for the first time, your first question may be how to find your way around the French Quarter. Your hotel will probably provide you with a map and place an "X" where your hotel is located so you can make your way back. After the first day, you'll be surprised at how easy it is to navigate around this major tourist area of New Orleans. See pictures of street scenes in the French Quarter below.

It's recommended that you walk whether you're shopping or looking for a restaurant as the streets are narrow and Bourbon Street is closed off at night. If you don't already know, Bourbon Street has a "red light district" feel at some parts, a surprise for a first time, naive tourist who believed it simply was a jazz mecca, which it also is. If you know the history of New Orleans, jazz and "red lights" go together.
The old streets, buildings, and great restaurants are worth a visit to New Orleans. If you're looking for a different atmosphere during your vacation, New Orleans will not disappoint. There's also the Riverwalk, Spanish Plaza, Woldenberg Park and the long riverfront walkway from the IMAX to the French Market along the Mississippi River. If your hotel is along Canal Street, and you're tired of walking, take the Canal Line Streetcar to give you a break. Or if you end up at the French Market, stop at any of the restaurants. If you're lucky, there may be a live band playing.
