to see Mount Rushmore is free to respect the wishes of its creator,
Gutzon Borglum. However,
you have to pay a parking fee pass of $10.00 as of 2008 and this pass
is good for that calendar year.
- Started
in 1927 and completed in 1941, a span of 14 years at the cost of $1
million.
- There
is a gift shop, an ice cream shop and café for the tourist who
appreciates such things near an attraction.

can choose to pay a fee of about $5.00 (2008) for an audio tour or
walk by yourself at your pace and appreciate the grounds.

is a children’s section near the main viewing area.

the stairs from the main viewing area is a bookstore and theaters
where you can watch videos about Mount Rushmore.

is a trail that winds along so you can enjoy Mount Rushmore from
several angles and there is a section where Native Americans can share
their culture. This trail
takes you to the Artist’s Studio where you can see a Park Ranger
talk about the tools used on the mountain and you can see Borglum’s
model that was used to design the mountain.
There are also pictures displayed of men working on the
mountain and Borglum’s plan of a “Great Hall” to keep government
documents that was never completed due to the beginning of U.S.
involvement in WWII.

the main viewing terrace, is an amphitheater.

DVD of the movie, North by Northwest, costs $23.00 (2008) at the gift
shop near the entrance. You decide if it’s worth it.
- The
flags of the U.S. states and territories line the walk toward the main
viewing terrace.
- There
is a sculpture of Borglum near the entrance as you walk up to see
Mount Rushmore.
